Why Shamshera is a flop and why Amir Khan Should be Worried?

Shamshera

It was 4 years ago when “Sanju” movie was released and Ranbir Kapoor was all over the Sky because of the film’s success. This film had everything to be a blockbuster. It was directed by Raj Kumar Hirani, produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the same duo that worked on Amir’s “3 Idiots”, Sanjay Dutt’s “Munna Bhai M.M.B.S.” and “Lage Raho Munna Bhai” etc. but “Sanju” had different plot and had Ranbir Kapoor in it. It was based on the life of Sanjay Dutt where Ranbir Kapoor played Sanjay Dutt while Paresh Rawal portrayed the character of Late Sunil Dutt Sahab. The film was an instant success, broke all box office records and had set Ranbir Kapoor as a box office king.

Ranbir hasn’t been in the news since then and hasn’t appeared in any film within the last 4 years. He recently tied the knot with Alia Bhatt in April, 2022 and the couple also confirmed recently the arrival of a baby. It was all a joy for Ranbir as he also had his much anticipated film “Shamshera” coming and releasing in theaters. This film also had all things to make it a blockbuster at the box office. It was from one of the biggest production houses “Yash Raj Films”, and it also had Sanjay Dutt collaborating with Ranbir Kaproor for the first time on the big screen and of course, Ranbir was also coming back to the screen after 4 years. So all of that had created a lot of hype and buzz for this film which was enough to generate the curiosity among the fans. But, despite having great reviews from IMDB of 7.5, Shamshera tanked heavily at box office and wasn’t able to gather half of its production cost itself. The film was made of a whooping budget of more than 150 crores but it only collected about 60 crores till now. The worst case scenario is that the shows were running so empty that the multiplexes had to remove the film. The same thing happened with Akshay Kumar’s “Prithviraj” which was also a production of Yash Raj Films and Kangana’s “Dhakad” which is said to be the highest on action and adventure just like Hollywood. But those two films also tanked at the box office and weren’t able to recover their production cost as well even when Akshay and Kangana are said to be the biggest Nationalists at this time.

One thing that might have been considered for the failure of these films is the ongoing trend of Boycotting the Bollywood. Things have changed since the death of popular actor Sushant Singh Rajput. There were news at the time of his death that the biggest production houses of Bollywood had cut deals with him which forced him to go into depression and that led to his suicide. Since then, there has been seen and unseen anger in his fans and quite often there has been trends of boycotting Bollywood when there’s a new film about to release. Anger has been in people’s minds since then which has laid the foundation of Bollywood’s demise.

The other thing that is currently being talked about more often is that how Bollywood has been consistently disrespecting Hindu Gods, their sentiments and laughing at their believes, not to mention the recent comments of Naseeruddin Shah’s wife Ratna Pathak Shah when she mocked the Hindu females for following their beliefs and for doing Karva Chauth. A vast number of people or we can say a community is viciously angry at Bollywood as to why they always mock Hindu sentiments and why no one does something about it. People have said that this has been going on for a very long time and Bollywood is not taking any notes yet keeps making movies to hurt the sentiments of the people of a specific religion. Hence, based on these events, people have started the trend of Boycotting the Bollywood and it has been getting stronger as the time passes by as more and more people have been connecting to it. Whether it’s Akshay’s Prithviraj or Kangana’s Dhakad or the most recent Ranbir’s Shamshera, all met with the same fate and have been proved the biggest flops of the years. There was also news that Shamshera had shown the Villain with Hindu beliefs including Tripund on his forehead and people were pissed as to why Bollywood always takes Hindus for granted. This actually spread like fire in the wild forest and was enough to put a level of “Biggest Flop” on Shamshera.

Some responses came from Bollywood’s people including Sanjay Dutt who said in an interview that rumors were spread about the film and that it caused an unbearable loss for the makers. Of course 90 crores was too much and can’t be recovered easily but this has sparked a row once again that has created an unwanted fear among the people who are involved in the films that are about the release just like Amir’s Lal Singh Chaddha.

Lal Singh Chaddha is a remake of Tom Hanks’ “Forrest Gump”. Not to mention that Tom Hanks’ brilliant performance had made this film a milestone in his career and it’ll be one of the finest cinematic creations of all the time but the reasons are still unknown as to what made Amir to make a remake of this great film? One reason that we can say is that Bollywood is out of ideas and now only working on Hollywood’s or South movies remake.

Anyway, while Amir is waiting for his much-anticipated film to reach the box office, people have already started the trend “BoycottLalSinghChaddha” as a part of their anger towards Bollywood. There have been lots of tweets on Twitter that are asking people not to go and watch Lal Singh Chaddha, the same trend that was on when Ranbir’s Shamshera was about to be released and we can’t just neglect the fact that this has played a vital role in making Shamshera a one of the biggest flops in the year 2022.

Now, when people are urging not to watch Amir’s Lal Singh Chaddha, based on the facts that Amir once said not to waste milk on Shivling and feed a poor instead and Kareena openly said to people to not to go and watch their films if they don’t like, it’s not wrong to say that Lal Singh Chaddha might meet to the same fate as Shamshera did, despite the fact that it had all the things to make it a box office success. Some people are saying that this would not be the case with Amir’s Lal Singh Chaddha because of the brand value of Amir Khan but we cannot deny the fact that Indian Cinema has now evolved and the presence of OTT and digital cinema has changed a lot of things. So, the brand value could not be the same as it was before and Amir might not be able to make it a huge success as his previous films and somewhere Amir also knows this and he’s working really hard to make it a success.

Well, the thing is that it might not meet the same fate as Shamshera and Amir might be able to lift it up a bit just because of his tremendous fan following but one thing that we know for sure is that this Lal Singh Chaddha won’t be the same as Amir’s previous films and Boycottlalsinghchaddha will play an impactful role in this.
